To wah or not to wah?

What are your thoughts on a wah pedal? I think they are great and fun to use, as long as it's done tastefully and not overdone.

Some might say that Voodoo Child (that'd be one of Hendrix's signature pieces young-uns) is a bit overdone and yet...

That song defines Wah to an entire generation. Even to third chair youth symphony cellists...(who completely freaked out his parents by slipping a microphone inside his cello and plugging it into a Wah and a fender Vibro Champ.)

Overdone meaning every single guitar solo or using it as a crutch to hide someones sloppy playing

That would apply to every effect everywhere

i would say that "sloppy playing" is a stand alone. It is its own reward. There simply isn't an effect that corrects inability. But then ...

such is the distinction between a musician and ... not.
