To those that say "I don't like SG's, they have bad neck dive", I say you are completely wrong. If you wear an appropriate strap like a leather one with an unfinished back (raw leather) or suede, there is virtually no neck dive.

You're admitting they do have neck dive, with possible solutions to counter it, but still you say "those who say" are completely wrong ? I don't mind it since I mostly play sitting, but I get why some don't want to bother.

Sometimes improvements of old traditions or famous designs are working great

no neckdive here....

If you were to use a leather strap right from the get go, you would never know an SG had neck dive unless you were scrolling through the internet

Not all SG’s suffer with this.
I’ve had some that did, and were a pain sometimes.
Also had about an equal number that were zero or negligible.
Some need a leather strap and caution.
Some are fine with nylon web (Earnie Ball) type straps.
No neck dive on this one, even with Grover machines:

I prefer the SG Stanard over the 61. The 61’s seem to sit more to the left and dive easier, but Irvine stand I use a leather strap and ply the guitar a little to my right, like I do with a Tele and my forearm holds it in place no problem. My leather straps aren’t rough or suede on the backside either.

Me too. I like the bigger necks, vs slim fast ‘60’s.
Well, I can play both, but prefer the Standard’s neck. However, the SG Special that I’m thinking about has the thinner profile, and the neck joint is further toward the bridge. I almost bought one of the Specials the other day, but I’m going to wait awhile. I have two cars to register by the middle of December. I will do one tomorrow, and the new car should be here by the the 15th of December.

I suppose I’ve been fortunate. Neck dive has never been an issue for me. Not even with this… regardless of the strap.

That's because yours has the maestro vibrola which the SG was designed to have. When they started making models without the trem, the neck dive started which as I've stated can be fixed with a leather or suede strap

I added this lately. But for sure. If the dive is a problem, increase the coefficient of friction.

As I said I’ve been fortunate. No idea why. Many steps have come and gone.
