    Thinking about something different

If you’re going to get a banjo, you may as well get bagpipes and a kazoo. They’re cheaper as a set. I’d be a bit leery of the Ibanez mandolin, simply because Ibanez isn’t a name you see in the Bluegrass world. But I endorse the mandolin concept. They sound very nice, and they’re fun to play...

Where/how to Adjust/Measure the Bridge Radius

You will enjoy that. I love the color.

    Compressor Recommendations Please.

So, I have two extremes. On the one, the venerable MXR Dyna Comp. Stupid simple, and it works. It’s a bit noisy. On the other, the TC Electronic Spectra Comp for bass. You can use software to adjust every single setting to within a nano of your heart’s desire, and then beam a signal with those...

Where/how to Adjust/Measure the Bridge Radius

Friend, you’re your own worst enemy! Join the club. You will fit in just fine. PS I love my Epi too. Amazing quality for a fraction of the cost of a Gibson, which conscience would never let me afford. Two boys in college and what not.

    €piphone History

Great read. Although Epiphone as a company is long gone, it’s cool that Gibson respects the heritage and reintroduces things like the Masterbilt line decades later.

New Boss RE-202 Space Echo! *Pic added*

Those are very cool. It’s funny how hard we try to emulate warbly tape delays. Back then, those guys would have killed for a super-clean digital delay!

Nothing like sticking your nose in the sound hole of a good acoustic and smelling the wood! I’m sure you had some great experiences at the factory.

Where/how to Adjust/Measure the Bridge Radius

Well, if you went and screwed up the old one, yeah, replace it. Learning about guitars is a life-long journey and we’ve all been there. Enjoy your Les Paul (I also have an Epi Les Paul, in honeyburst) and happy playing!

Where/how to Adjust/Measure the Bridge Radius

A Les Paul (or any other) fretboard can be “conical” as you say, but it will be called a “compound radius.” For example, the specs might say compound radius 12-16” which means the fretboard begins at the nut with a 12” radius and flattens to a 16” radius as you approach the highest fret. The...

    Needs vs Wants

Everybody can play like McCartney! He’s not a fast or complicated bass player. But his lines are melodic and clever, like his songwriting. Geddy and Chris and others, I can’t keep up with…

Can anybody recommend a high quality, good sounding looper?

Well, the question is, what do you want to do with it?

    Delays…what’s your favorite flavor?

I have the MXR Carbon Copy and like it a lot. I’d like a tremolo pedal. I have tremolo on a Peavey tube amp. It sounds good—it’s real analog tremolo—but obviously I can only use it on that amp. Amp effects are always one trick ponies too.

How many hours do you practice each day ?

I decided at Christmas I wouldn’t buy any gear this year, and would join Fender Play and Guitar Tricks instead. Which I did, and I’ve played/practiced nearly every day for about an hour since then. I also bought two amps, a guitar and several pedals. And a case for the guitar. And an audio...

    Show Your Number One Amp

I’ve been playing this a lot recently, through a Mesa 1x12 cab. Orange Terror Stamp. It really sounds good—20 watts with a 12AX7 in the preamp. I think maybe I just like the sound of the cab too, and this is something I can use at bedroom volumes in the man cave.

Can anybody recommend a high quality, good sounding looper?

I This was asked on Phil McKnight’s podcast last week. His immediate response was the TC Electronic Ditto, and then the Boss RC-1. I have the single-button Ditto and like it, but I’ve never used another one, so I can’t compare it to anything. It’s a handy practice tool.

Pretty good tone for the cheapest tube amp around.

Yeah, he’s a candidate to take a lawn mower blade to you skull, for sure.

    Well, the power is out.

It took out the motorcyclist too. The boom was probably the transformer blowing when a motorcyclist traveling 100 mph un-assed the bike and snapped the power pole.
