... gear you ever had, and when was that ?

Me, as a bassist early 70s.
Gibson Melody Maker SG Bass and a Traynor Super Custom Special YBA-3A matched to two JB Landsing 15" in huge cabs.

I had bought it with its matching 8X10" cab, but I managed to blow some of the speakers.

When I was playing outdoor concert volume rock&roll, Ampeg V4, 4X12, and a Telecaster. Awesome rig at the time.
Those days are long gone, but the tinnitus remains.
Best sounding? Now, by far!

Quilter Aviator, and a slab P-90 (in two iterations):

The best gigging set-up I ever had was a Traynor Bloc100GT and an Electra X260N- Invicta. Both of which have bee n gone for years. Being young and dumb, I "Had to have a Fender Chorus amp" and got rid of the amp. The guitar I held on to until a couple years ago when I realized I hadn't played it in twenty years, so I traded it in on a Gretsch.

The Best recording set-up was a 64 tuxedo princeton and my G5120 with filtertrons. I sold the Fender a while back after I got afraid to leave the house with it. The Gretsch I still have.

Best or loudest LOL.

I've traveled so many roads on the bass side of it that I have to scratch my head and recall what exactly I was playing when. But overall what I have now is by far the best I've owned. That little Genzler MG350 combo I bought about 10 months ago wouldn't carry a gig in a larger venue but then when do I ever play larger venues any longer or play live at all these days? It's the epitome of clarity and projection and has the easiest voicing and EQ controls I've ever worked with. The time Jeff Genzler spent on developing the Magellan heads and the Bass Array speakers really shows his vast knowledge of how to design and build top shelf bass gear. Soon I'll add a BA2-112-3SLT cab so I can get the entire 350w from the rig if ever I start doing some live gigs again. That rig will be more than enough and versatile enough.

And I like the basses I have. My Matt Freeman PBass is better than any US built Fender I've ever owned before and I enjoy my G&L M2000 active bass. It has a 3 band 18v active preamp, MFD pickups, and a PBass width neck. If I gig again those will be the two I use. I have a Jazz Bass because why not? It's another old school standard and my short scale is fun to play when I just want to mess around for awhile. I
lt'll also come in handy for doing a sit down kinda gig or when giving lessons. I'm really not missing much bass gear any longer.

The guitars are all what I enjoy having and playing now but they're all essentially current version of the stuff I grew up. All except the PRS.
There two Teles, a G&L ASAT T-style, a hardtail Robt Cray Strat, and Epiphone ES339, '56 Gold Top P90, and an LP Special P90, and the PRS DGT. I really can't recall any guitar I ever owned before that was better than any of these including my stuff from the '60s and '70s.

The amps are a hodge podge. I like my Egnater Tweaker for a mid powered tube amp but it's in need of some repair right now. Nice little amp with multiple voicings. I have a Quilter US Superblock that's perfect for anytime I need a grab and go pedal amp with enough juice to rehearse or gig with and I have two 112 cabs to use with it or the Tweaker. And then there's my old '90s warhorse Roland Blues Cube 60. It's at least 25 years old and still kickin'. It's only drawback is it's weight. I've though about replacing it with a newer lighter version or possibly one of the Fender Tonemaster amps but there's no real motivation to do so. I play it every day and it sounds great.

So there ya' have it. I prefer what I have now. FWIW here's a few pics;
