I put a Strat pickup in the neck of mine, Gilmour style, just to change things up a bit.

To me it looks like someone added some sort of wood block to cover up a hole next to the bridge?

The only "hole" if you can even call it that is what's called a "butt crack" along the side of a 3 saddle bridge when you replace the stock six saddle bridge but most people just leave it alone since it's so slight. That looks more like a discoloration. If not what am I missing here?

I thought you might have been referring to the brass saddles. They're less bright than steel.
