Show Your Number One Amp

Here it is finally! And permanently!

2024 Hot Rod Deluxe! Now with blue jewel instead of the stock red. The white bulb was too bright through the blue so I added a blue silicone bulb cover, as well. The last 2 pics are before and after the silicone bulb cover.

On the left would be the former #1 amp, my trusty 15w Monoprice 1x12 combo. Been used every single day for the last 3.5+ years. Almost fried it twice lol. Love that thing! I actually really like how it sounds, as well.

The stock Celestion Seventy 80 sounds great in my MP15. I don't know what happened to it. One day, it sounded OK and the next, it sounded great! And has sounded great ever since. All I could figure was it finally broke in good. 🤷

2024 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV

Just got here about 30-45 mins ago. I tested it to make sure nothing was wrong with it and then it gets put up until my bday in 6 weeks.

*I slid the included amp cover on it and put it in the hall closet. The cardboard box is in the attic lol. No, I'm not going to slide it out and play when no one's home. I SWEAR! 😁🤣

Surprisingly, it wasn't difficult to find a decent bedroom volume down around 2 lol. I plan on ordering a 12AY7 for V1 and possibly a 12AT7 for V3 to tame it a bit & get some more use out of the volume knob before it's too loud.

I did the 12ay7 V1 for my Blues Deluxe and it did make a big difference.

I then recently discovered this gizmo and it works great:

Nothing but positive reviews everywhere.

I prefer the tubes. I did both the 12ay7 and 12at7. That thing is just a volume pot. I made one in a couple of minutes with a pot and 2 jacks and tried it out and it doesn't work nearly as well as a 12ay7 & 12at7. I removed the pot immediately and haven't used it again.

I found this chart pretty informative if you're looking for headroom. The 12AU7 makes a huge difference in volume.

Gain Factor

12AX7=100
5751=70
12AT7=60
12AY7=45
12AV7=41
12AU7=19

Substitution

12AX7 - ECC83, 7025, ECC803, E83CC, 6681
12AT7 - ECC81, 6201, 6679
12AY7 - 6072
12AV7 - 5965
12AU7 - ECC82, 5963, 5814, 6189

Everybody is bitching about small pots. Imagine the size of the one in that gizmo ! 🤪
But if it works for you, it work.

Where did you put the 12at7?

In V1.

Tried it on a Monoprice 15W, a Traynor YVC 20WR, a Fender Super-Sonic 22, and ... maybe somewhere else.
I was curios where @Wound-Up did reason being our amps are similar (mine's a Blues Deluxe).

I put a 12ay7 in V1 and oh yea it made a difference and now with the Lion Tamer & the ay7 is even more versatile and sounds killer.

Even though I'm happy with the results I happen to have an at7 sitting around and that curiosity....well you know how it goeslaughing.gif
