I've had a 11-48 set of these from Curt Mangan sitting around forever and thought I'd try them on my Takamine. They're not as bright as the 80/20 varieties I normally use and I was wondering if anyone else has had some experience with them either on an acoustic or an electric? Just looking for personal impressions.

I've tried Martin's version of Monel (Retro) on my HD-28. Didn't do it for me. Some say Monel is best suited for mahogany.

Hard to get me to budge from D'Addario EJ17 Phosphor Bronze. The ideal set for the 28.

The Tak has a layered walnut body and is fairly bright so I'm not losing all that much high end. Don't know that I'll keep them on but since I had a set I figured why not try 'em.

I used Gibson “Mona-steel” strings in the sixties on my J-45.
When I ran a DeArmond “hole chewer” magnetic pickup in the sound hole it kicked serious butt with those strings.
The Martin version nowadays are pale by comparison, acoustic or electric, in my experience.
