As the title suggests, I have been experimenting with different gauges and brands on my acoustic. I prefer the coated strings as I get more mileage for my dollar as compared to regular un-coated strings. I just put some D'Addario XS strings (80/20) on my acoustic and having been an Elixir user for a few years, these XS seem to be way brighter sounding and have more punch/volume than the Elixir (80/20). I hope the XS strings last as long as the Elixir strings.

I have used the XS on electric and I didn't get on with them. They didn't last that long. I'm wondering if the acoustic set will be different seeing as I keep it in a case, whereas I leave my electrics on my rack stand.

Looking forward to your review.

I’ll be getting some half wounds for the thick hollow bodies. Hoping to get more brightness than a flat wound yet more life than a round wound.

80/20, eh? They sound great at first, but loose it quickly after that. Uncoated as coated are not my thing. I tried Elixir and the D'Addario coated.

What do you think of phosphor bronze? They keep their sound longer than any 80/20 set I've tried.

Martin makes a chemically treated string that will outlast conventional strings. My usual go to for the 12 string. Less spendy than the coated.

I find the coated 80/20 keep their tone for a while. As far as PB, I find they are too dark sounding. I really like the brightness and punch I get from the 80/20.
