It might look aesthetically better on top of the cab, but if you have a hard time dealing with it, why not place it differently. It is not a very complicated amp, you'll probably get used to what's what in no time. I guess guitarists played hidden in the back of their amp when that was designed :D

That is an unusual item/shape for any company making a specific box for it. Get sturdy cardboard and make one yourself. Use soft foam to pack it tight and a LOT of packing tape to build the box, that will make it bulletproof.

I thought about leaving it on the back porch, to entertain local fauna.

Too bad, it is a nice amp.
