That Ferrari is and was a POS in reality. Underpowered 2.9L V8, with a crude drivetrain. 240 HP when it was new.

From my ever addled memory; was either UK Top Gear and / or an auto magazine pointed out the VW GTI of the era could keep up with or better the 308 in acceleration and cornering.

I also saw one on an autocross course get owned by much lesser FWD cars. To be fair that was a 20+ year old notoriously fussy Ferrari drivetrain with tires not up to the task.
