Ahhh yes, new year, new maximum "out of pocket" healthcare costs...(those of you in the civilized world won't have any idea what that is all about...and you should thank the maker that you don't) and chemo ain't free lads and lassies....
So another rarity hits the classifieds.
A Lashing Celluloid Nitrate Pickguard ... !
Google Lashing Pickguards for an unbiased discussion regarding what where who when and why... or read on.
11 hole 64 Strat era configuration.
Old fender pickguards were made from celluloid nitrate. That is what gave them their special je ne sais quoi...the sort of thing that you know when you see but can't describe. The original "mint green" fender pickguard started out as kind of light blue. They were made from a material that came from Italy. Over time they faded into green things, but originally they looked like the one pictured below.
A fellow bought up the last remaining Italian stock of this nitrate stuff some years ago and copied fender's template. Made a bunch of pickguards. My guess is that his name is/was Lashing.
I bought one.
Now I'm selling it.
For $300.
Which is insane for a pickguard.
Except, it's a Lashing and there aren't anymore of them out there.
I could use the word "rare" but I'd have to use all caps and a bunch of exclamation points, and I think that looks silly.
It's unique. It's not for everyone. I bought it to supplement the pickguard on a 64 strat in case the original shrank beyond usefulness, which didn't happen before I sold the strat.
Yes it's used. Yes it shows signs of use. It's a pickguard.
If someone wants more detailed photos, I'll make them. But for now these are the teaser...

Just the pickguard, the guitar and electronics are not included.
It is rather fetching don't you think! (Why yes, I am old, how'd you guess?)
