    Show Your Number One Amp

Bill was a jazz player and to my way of thinking the L5 was his Gibson jazz players special. Bill designed several other models for them as well but greatly disagreed with the quality of the product they were producing. Sound familiar?

    All Things Funny...

Ya' got that right. The question is do they realize we're all on the same boat and sharks don't take cash or American Express? Stop bailing and let the flood of water flow toward them. They'll grab a bucket soon enough.

    RIP John Mayall

Amen to that. Makes me realize just how much older I've gotten.

Been playing my PRS SE DGT most of the past week and through my Roland BC 60. Here they are.

    Delays…what’s your favorite flavor?

The best I've ever had was a Hardwire DL-8 to pair with the best Reverb pedal I ever had an RV-7. I sold both awhile ago for a very premium price compared to how little I paid for them initially. I've simplified my pedal board a lot and now I'm using JHS Series 3 pedals. The delay has both...

I'm a huge fan of Bill's pickups and have been using them in my Teles and basses for about 15 years now. First Keystones then Micro-Coils a TL48 and P46 and J45 for my basses. I'm eternally grateful to Becky and Shannon for keeping the company and his legend alive. I haven't reached the point...

Looks like Bill Lawrence/Wilde Twin Blade L500s in the L5. Bill designed that guitar when he worked for Gibson. Don't see many of them around anymore.

Advice buying a vintage fender (Amp reverb or pedal reverb?)

I'm in lock step with the rest. No reverb pedal can produce as accurately when a tank spring reverb can. But my other question is has you considered the potential costs of owning a high powered tube amp in addition to just the cost of buying one? If the amp requires updating and possibly new...

    Needs vs Wants

It depends on the type. Flat wounds are more costly. Typically around $40-$45 a set. Thomastik-Inflelds are around $70. Roundwounds and their various sub-genre range from $15-$20 on up but need to be replaced more often whereas a set of flats will last until that asteroid that has Earth's...

    Needs vs Wants

I have those on my PBass already so it covers the Motown/Memphis Stax type stuff I play. With the others I've tended to like GHS Pressurewounds but thought I might do a little more experimenting with the short scale.

Welcome to our Gear Talk community!

In the Morrison Era I agree but somewhere I read they did at times later on. If I can find where I read that I'll post it but safe to say it was not typical of The Doors many of us would recognize. In the studio though and over time they used many different bassists...

    Stratocasters of the 1950's

Didn't know that. I wonder why Fender doesn't use the soft "V" profile more often. For me they're more comfortable and fit my hand better.

    Stratocasters of the 1950's

Great piece Scott! Those '50s two tone sunbursts are among the best looking to me. I'm also curious why Leo stepped away from the soft "V" neck as I tend to find them more comfortable. The hard "V" I can see but not so much the soft 'V". IIRC only the Clapton and Jimmy Vaughan models have...

What would you like to see added on GT?

I dunno brother. I mean compared to Tommy Emmanuel I'm a newbie. :( Should I be posting there too?

Maybe they could capture the essence of Van Morrison too and put it in a showcase.
