So, I recently stumbled upon the Digitech Drop Tune pedal which allows you to change tunings on the fly without switching guitars or string gauges. It got me thinking, I would only really need one guitar with humbuckers to cover just about anything in any tuning, within the rock/metal/blues genres. I'm really on the fence about selling my Epi Les Paul and SG Pro to get an Epi SG Modern with 24 frets, getting the drop pedal and only relying on one guitar for everything (minus a Tele for country, it has the "sound").

I know this all comes down to personal preference and if I want more than one guitar for different tunings, but ultimately having a drop tune pedal makes having multiple guitars kind of unnecessary.

Thoughts?

Well ... SGs and LPs don't feel/play the same for me, that is enough to warrant one of each. You can have them to sound pretty close though. If you're thinking about a 24 fret guitar, then I suppose the limited LP upper register is not your thing.

I love the feel of my LP, but the upper fret access can get a little tight when playing lead. I always prefer the playability of an SG
