You know what Vertical Scope is known for?

Buying up forums and KILLING THEM I SHORT ORDER. No one agrees with the things they do so everyone ends up leaving and the forum slows to a crawl because no one visits.

The last one I was at, the biggest drag racing forum on the internet, had THOUSANDS of unique visitors daily. Vertical Scope bought it and within 2 years, it was DEAD. Today, there's maybe 25 active daily users. They all left and made their own forum without all of Vertical Scope's BS.

I won't be surprised to see Strat Talk die in short order. That is what Vertical Scope is known for: buying and killing EXTREMELY ACTIVE forums. It's their M.O.

Youll be seeing me here A LOT more now.

if it means the non-musician ferengi is leaving them I might return...

oh...and I may be mistaken but I believe this forum is, or was, owned by the same entity...went by the name alex...enthused digital. whether the acquisition includes all of ED (love that part of the name) then so goes TDPRI, My Les Paul, and I think The Gear Page...

They bought all other forums, like ā‚¬pi-Talk, Squier-Talk, MyLesPaul-Forum and some more

We will see how it goes.

Currently I don't post much on these forums, though this has nothing to do with the acquiring

I was just over at ST the other day. @Wound_Up was the only familiar face I saw. All the cool kids (or Old Timers) seem to have fled. I saw that Lonn had posted over there. It seems to be that they have a large fresh supply of Newbs over there. I canā€™t imagine ST or TDPRI getting sunk, or the GearPage. But we can observe over the next several months or next couple of years and see if anything happens.

I guess this site actually belongs to Alex, and not ED. Maybe @VictorB can chime in.

Nothing will change with those sites.

Itā€™ll be left up to the current Admins and Mods to run them as they have been. The ads will be cleaned up slightly but thatā€™s all.

Maybe their cleanup is causing those sites to run pretty slow. Hereā€™s hoping for relief.

well alex "liked" and didn't confirm or deny so ... it remains probable with plausible deniability attached.

I'll bet that if more of the "cool kids" knew this site existed the traffic would increase exponentially. I'll not be the messenger however...

if y'all recall, I was the messenger, almost a year ago, about a site called tone room or some such, that turned out to be a forum of car enthusiasts - who apparently want to pick fistfights - run by a clown with delusions of grandeur.

Thus I doubt my recommendation would be viewed positively.

That's what you think. They have their own mods and Admins that will do what they want. Just watch. TGP already has ads every 2 replies. That's only the beginning.

They bought out the biggest drag racing forum, we'll call it YB, on the internet and claimed they wouldn't ever change it. After 2 yrs, they started with little things here and there. Now, 7 or 8 yrs later they turned a site that had thousands of unique visitors daily into a site with the same 20 racist d-bags posting politics in every thread. And they complain about how much it sucks there. Continually.

Everyone else left and went to a forum started by an EX-YB member that's basically a copy of YB before it was bought by Vertical Scope. Now they have 600+ users/day while YB has nothing. It's empty. And they claimed over & over they wouldn't change anything.

Only...its everything they changed that drove the entire membership away. That's not the first forum they killed.. More like the 500th? It's only been a week or something and Strat Talk gets to the point that it's unusable at times because it's sooooooo slow.

Another of their contributions: the forums slow down CONSIDERABLY when they take over. You guys only thought there was issues before they bought it. Just wait. Things will only get worse from here. I've seen them kill far too many forums to expect anything different from VS. Many were forums I frequented.

I suspect this place will become my new home soon.

That's what you think...

I left ST about a year ago solely because of a particular mod's brutish bullying of one of the forum's most valued participants. The mod recognized an opportunity to unleash a heartlessly boorish diatribe after the fellow suffered a gunshot wound to the head that resulted in traumatic brain injury.

As this guy is struggling to learn to speak and walk all over again, one mod demonstrates characteristics consistent with some sort of personality disorder in the form of a PM (so that the recipient was prevented from protesting, and no one else would see it, or so he mistakenly thought) that defies human decency.

It was no secret that the mod in question can't play for shit, and that his only talent is flaunting acquisitions while bragging about his wife's wealth...

...but to beat up on a guy who he knows is utterly defenseless, is the very personification of a coward.

As long as that mod is there I, and many others, won't be.

Whoa. I had no idea. Not sure how I missed all of that, tbh.

I heard about that and that's ultimately how I found this place. I still post over there as there are still a handful of old friends that remain but the list is growing shorter every day it seems. I guess that's the natural cycle of forums if you're a member long enough but it does seem the last exodus of members was completely avoidable.

As to the mod in question, I suspect he's never cared for me as in all these years I can't recall once where he's replied to a post of mine. I haven't lost sleep over it. I am chuckling a bit at the bolded and I'm happy I wasn't the only one who noticed this. :D

Anyhow, good to see you're still about and posting.

It wasn't widely disseminated; the 'valued participant' didn't advertise details of the injury, neither the initial injury or the subsequent abuse, and the mod in question didn't brag about his ... "uncivilized behavior" shall we say (I'm trying to be polite for the benefit of this forum as my feelings on the circumstance are really quite pronounced.)

Mouse, I don't believe this mod ever responed well toward anyone who actually had some mastery of their instrument.

I assume 'ST' is Strat-Talk ?
Is this Mod also a Mod at Squier-Talk ?
Yes, ST is strat-talk. Don't know where else this particular clown struts about, but probably.
not that I'm in any danger of mastering this instrument.
Au contraire mon ami, I recall a collaborative effort of some interpretive skill and virtuosity on your part...which no doubt sent Mr. Dig Me into a jealous fit.

I went and looked and found most of it. The threads been cleaned out, though, so I missed some stuff. I had no idea he was going through that. I'll pray for him. There's only a few mods and Mansonienne, who stepped down. And Lonn, who replaced them. I tried to figure out who you could be talking about but I guess I'm missing too much info.
